The Kronprins Harald was a ferry of the Norwegian Jahre Line that entered service in 1976. The ship remained in the service of the shipping company until 1987 , before it was sold and changed names and owners several times in the following years. In 2011 it was scrapped in India under the name Caribbean Express .

history

Crown Prince Harald (1976-1987)

The Crown Prince Harald was commissioned on November 10, 1973 and laid on February 1, 1975 at Nobiskrug in Rendsburg . After the takeover by Jahre Line on March 30, 1976, the ship under the Norwegian flag with her home port Sandefjord started up. It was put into service on April 2, 1976 on the route from Oslo to Kiel .

On February 27, 1987, Crown Prince Harald was transferred to DFDS Seacruise Ltd., which belongs to DFDS . based in Nassau , but was still managed by the Jahres Line. On March 1, 1987, the ship was withdrawn from the Kiel - Oslo route.

Hamburg (1987–1997)

On March 9, 1987 the ship was handed over to DFDS in Hamburg. From April 4, 1987, the ship was under the name Hamburg for DFDS between Hamburg and Harwich in service.

On November 9, 1989, the Hamburg collided with the RoRo freighter Nordic Stream , killing three people on board the ferry. After repair work at Blohm & Voss , the Hamburg was able to resume service on December 22, 1989.

In December 1990 the ship went to Scandinavian World Cruises.

Admiral of Scandinavia (1997-2002)

In May 1997 the ship was bought for DFDS Bahamas Ltd. registered and renamed Admiral of Scandinavia . It arrived in IJmuiden on June 12, 1997, to be used between IJmuiden and Newcastle upon Tyne or Hamburg and Newcastle upon Tyne. In September 1999 it was again stationed in Hamburg and continued to sail to Newcastle. In the following years the route of the ship changed several times before it was sold to Access Ferries based in Panama in August 2002.

On November 14, 2002, the Admiral of Scandinavia was retired by DFDS.

Caribbean Express (2002-2011)

On November 20th, the ship was renamed Caribbean Express . It arrived in Piraeus for modernization in December 2002 , before being transferred to Puerto Rico in April 2003 . The new area of ​​operation of the Caribbean Express was henceforth the route between Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo .

In April 2010 the ship was withdrawn after 34 years of service and in July 2010 it was transferred to Carrizona Ltd. sold to India for scrapping. It was brought under the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis, with its home port in Basseterre . After the Caribbean Express lay in front of Cape Town from October 20 to 31, 2010 due to an engine failure , it finally arrived on January 25, 2011 for scrapping in Alang, India .
