The Isle of Inishmore is a Ro-Ro - ferry of the shipping company Irish Ferries . The ship operates in the Irish Sea between Rosslare Harbor in Ireland and Pembroke Dock in the United Kingdom .
history
The ship was built under construction number 968 at the Van der Giessen-De Noord shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel . The keel was laid on December 8, 1995, the launch on October 4, 1996. The completed ship was delivered to Irish Ferries on February 14, 1997. The cost of construction was Ir £ 60 million.
The ship replaced the Isle of Innisfree built in 1995 and was initially used between Dublin and Holyhead . In May 2001 it switched to the route between Rosslare Harbor and Pembroke Dock. The route between Dublin and Holyhead was taken over by the newly commissioned Ulysses .
The ship initially operated under the flag of Ireland was brought under the flag of Cyprus in March 2006 . The ship is named after the largest island of the west coast of Ireland in the Galway Bay nearby Aran Islands .
Technical specifications
The drive of the ship by four eight-cylinder - diesel engines of the manufacturer Sulzer (Type: 8ZAL40S) each with 5,760 kW power . The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers with Becker rudders. Three diesel generator sets are available for power generation, each driven by Sulzer diesel engines with an output of 1160 kW, as well as two generators driven by the main engines with an output of 2800 kW each. In addition, an emergency generator with 400 kW output was installed. The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters , each with an output of 1500 kW.
The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A).
The ship has eleven decks . The vehicle decks are located on decks 3 to 6. The lounge areas for the passengers are located on decks 7 and 8, and the passenger cabins are located in the front part of deck 9. A “Sky Lounge” is located on the top deck, Deck 11. On this deck is located at the front of the superstructure , the bridge of the ship. The aft part of deck 9 and deck 10 are reserved for the ship's crew . The passenger capacity of the ship is 2200 people.
The lower ro-ro deck can be reached directly via a bow and stern ramp . The bow ramp is located behind a bow visor that can be opened from the side . The deck 5 above can be reached from aft via landside ramps and in the front area via a fixed ramp, which can also be used via a landside ramp. Here a bulkhead closes the vehicle deck behind. Deck 5 merges into an open deck in the rear area. The ro-ro decks are connected to one another via an internal ramp.
2100 lane meters are available on the vehicle decks . There is space for 855 cars. The ferry can carry 122 semi-trailers . There are 40 power connections for semi-trailers with temperature-controlled cargo. The maximum axle load on the vehicle deck is 15 t.
