Pembroke Dock
Pembroke Dock ( Welsh : Doc Penfro ) is a town in south Pembrokeshire in Wales . It is located north of Pembroke and has a population of 8,676.
The city was founded in 1814 when a new shipyard was built there, where a large number of ships were built.
The port on the Daugleddau River is now mainly used as a ferry port, from which ships head towards Rosslare Harbor to Ireland . The nearby oil industry at Pembroke and Milford Haven is the largest employer.
The city's main attraction is the museum in the Gun Tower, a fortress in the harbor.
RAF Pembroke Dock
After the shipyard closed in 1926, Pembroke Dock became a Royal Air Force station for three decades . During the Second World War it was the largest flying boat base in the world. A museum commemorates this time.
From 1943 until the end of the war, Lawrenny Ferry had a seaplane training base five kilometers northeast of Pembroke , the Royal Naval Air Station Lawrenny Ferry, operated under the name HMS Daedalus II .
