Grandi Navi Veloci (Italian for Big Fast Ships ) is an Italian shipping company that operates a fleet of eleven ferries . It is owned by the Swiss- Italian shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
The company was founded in 1992 by Aldo Grimaldi. A year later, the year of the launching of the MN Majestic , they had seven ships of the Cruise-Ferry class. In 1999, GNV was the only Italian shipping company to go public to modernize its fleet. In 2002 the Gruppo Permira acquired large shares in the company, and in 2006 further shareholders were added. With the launch of three new ships in 2007 and 2008, Grandi Navi Veloci initiated a new development phase, which is characterized by the operation of more spacious ferries with larger cargo capacities.
Grandi Navi Veloci has ferry connections between the port of Genoa and Palermo , Tunis , Porto Torres (Sardinia), Olbia (Sardinia), Barcelona and Tanger-Med (Morocco).
After Comanav / Comarit was no longer allowed to operate Moroccan ferry connections at the beginning of 2012 due to high debts, GNV was the only interested party to take over the Sète - Nador / Tanger-Med routes.
Grandi Navi Veloci operates on 15 routes: Genoa - Porto Torres, Genoa - Palermo, Genoa - Barcelona, Genoa - Tunis, Genoa - Tangier, Civitavecchia - Palermo, Civitavecchia - Tunis, Civitavecchia - Termini Imerese, Naples - Palermo, Palermo - Tunis, Barcelona - Tangier, Barcelona-Nador, Sète - Tangier, Sète - Nador, Bari- Durres.
