The Excellent is a ferry of the Italian shipping company Grandi Navi Veloci that was put into service in 1998 . It is used on the route from Genoa to Sète , Barcelona and Tangier .
history
The Excellent was built under hull number 1206 in the Nuovi Cantieri Apunia shipyard in Marina di Carrara and was delivered to Grandi Navi Veloci on May 23, 1998. The commissioning took place on June 10th on a short trip for advertising purposes from Israel to Cyprus . On June 25th, the ship finally started the regular ferry service from Genoa to Olbia .
In April 2000, the Forza Italia party chartered the Excellent for campaign trips to various Italian cities. The ports of Genoa, Livorno , Naples , Reggio Calabria , Catania , Bari , Pescara , Ancona , Rimini and Venice were called .
In the course of her career, the ferry has been in use on various routes. It has been operating the route from Genoa to Sète, Barcelona and Tangier since 2012.
On October 31, 2018, the Excellent collided with the quay wall in the port of Barcelona in stormy weather and rammed a container crane, which then overturned. A fire at the terminal started due to containers loaded with dangerous goods. The bow of the ship was damaged in the incident. People were not harmed.
