Remontowa , full name Gdańska Stocznia "Remontowa", is a shipyard in the Polish city of Gdańsk.
history
The predecessor company Danziger Waggonfabrik (DWF) produced railroad cars, trams and trolleybuses and was founded in 1898 by the German steelworks (Deutsches Stahlwerke GmbH) based in Essen . The head office was located in Gdansk on Broschkischerweg 1–2 (today's Ul. Wiślna ). The shipyard was founded on this site in 1945 as Stocznia No. 3 and was called Gdańska Stocznia Remontowa from 1950 to 2010 and Remontowa Shipbuilding from 2011.
Shipyard operation
The shipyard is one of 26 companies owned by Remontowa Holding. The shipyard has six docking facilities with a lifting capacity of up to 36,000 t and, in addition to new construction, specializes in repairing, converting and extending ships. The main focus is currently on retrofitting scrubbers for exhaust gas treatment and the installation of ballast water treatment systems . Furthermore, orders for offshore projects are processed on a regular basis. The total area of the shipyard is 850,000 m² with a hall area of 133,500 m² and a quay length of 6,000 m. Around 200 ships are repaired or converted every year. In addition, some special types of ships are being built, such as ice-going container ships for the Royal Arctic Line in Greenland or chemical tankers.
