Cervera is the capital of the Comarca Segarra , a district in the province of Lleida in the interior of the autonomous region of Catalonia . Cervera has 9180 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).
history
Cervera was founded as a market in 1182 and elevated to town in 1702 . During the War of the Spanish Succession , Cervara sided with Philip V. After the war (1717), the University of Barcelona moved to Cervera. The presence of professors and students dominated city life until 1842 when the university was relocated to Barcelona . The neoclassical building of the old university is one of the city's attractions today.

The city has a train station on the Lleida - Barcelona line via Manresa . There are regional train connections to Barcelona-Sants Station and Lleida Pirineus Station. These two stations offer connections to the Spanish AVE high-speed trains .
Regional buses to Lleida, Girona and Barcelona, among others, leave from the bus station right next to the train station .
Cervera is well connected to the Catalan road network thanks to its location on the regional motorway C-25, called Eix Transversal , and the motorway A-2 .
