The Barcelona Sants railway station is the main station of the Catalan capital Barcelona . It is located in the Sants-Montjuïc district on the square of the same name (Plaça de Sants). Among other things, it is the end point of the high-speed line Madrid – Barcelona .
history
The station with underground track systems and a hall above it was built in the 1970s. He replaced the Estació de França as the city's main train station. In 2008 the first AVE high-speed trains from Madrid reached the station. Since 2013, the Provença tunnel has made it possible to continue the high-speed line to the French border through the city. Sants is expected to have an antipole in the eastern part of the city with the Barcelona-Sagrera train station from 2023 . The high-speed trains to / from Madrid and France will stop at both locations. In the course of this expansion of the offer, various modifications are being made in the train station, which was built in an airport-like style.

Long-distance transport
Most of the long-distance trains that touch Barcelona leave from Barcelona-Sants. A few trains in the direction of France run from the Estació de França. From Sants, AVE / ALTRIA trains run to Madrid Atocha , Seville , Córdoba , Bilbao , Irún and Vigo as well as Euromed and Alaris to Alicante / Valencia , which are to start in Barcelona-Sagrera from 2019. Subway
The Barcelona Metro serves the station with the L3 (Zona Universitària – Trinitat Nova) and L5 (Cornellà Center – Vall d'Hebron) lines. The station on line L5 was opened in 1969, that of line 3 in 1969. In 2004, the counter hall on line 3 was renovated.
