Euromed [ eu̯ɾoˈmeð ] is a type of train operated by the Spanish railway company RENFE for high-speed connections on the Barcelona - Castellón - Valencia - Alicante route .

business

For the Euromed services From 1997 onwards, a broad gauge version of the Spanish high-speed train of 100 series used. Since RENFE originally ordered 24 of these trains for the AVE services , but in the later planning phase an overcapacity of multiple units was determined, RENFE decided to use six of these high-speed trains as RENFE series 101 for the Spanish broad gauge network (1668 mm) to interpret. Due to the transferable upper current at 3 kV direct voltage, both the power and the maximum speed were lower than with the control track units below 25 kV. According to the design of the upgraded route, it was 220 instead of 300 km / h. Since November 1, 2009 only trains of the RENFE series 130 have been running as Euromed , the six units of the series 101 were converted to standard gauge by 2010 and integrated into the series 100. The Euromed trains now usually run continuously between Barcelona and Alicante. They serve the Valencia Joaquín Sorolla train station in Valencia and run between Valencia and Alicante without any further traffic stops on the regular-gauge high-speed line. Talgo 7 units were used for trains that are now running beyond this. However, these again operate under the »Talgo« train type.
