Sourou Sport is a sports club from Tougan , a small town in the northwest of the West African state of Burkina Faso . Sourou is the province whose capital is Tougan.
The association was founded in 1954 under the name AS Tougan with the president Zio Mama. Under Eloi Adjessi from Dahomey , the club name was changed to Sourou Sport in 1956.
Although the club had missed reaching the promotion round of the second division, he was able to qualify for the first division in a relegation match against Nalambou FC Fada N'Gourma , as only one club of the six teams in the round was unreservedly eligible for promotion (AS Koupéla). For the other clubs, from Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, a separate promotion scheme applied. There had been controversies about the relegation game, as those responsible at Sourou Sport were of the opinion that the direct promotion was theirs according to the regulations. The association did not follow this line of argument.
