Tobias Jan Hakan Linderoth (born April 21, 1979 in Marseille ) is a Swedish football player and coach. The former midfielder , who made his debut for the Swedish national team in 1999 , has played in Sweden, Norway, England, Denmark and Turkey throughout his career to date.

Linderoth's childhood

His father Anders Linderoth was also a footballer and was under contract with Olympique Marseille from 1977 to 1980 . Tobias Linderoth was born in Marseille in 1979.

Career

He received his first professional contract in 1996 with the Swedish first division club IF Elfsborg , the professional team was trained by his father. There he played together with Anders Svensson in midfield and was seen as a great talent.

In 1999 he and his father went to Stabæk Fotball in Norway . After the 2001 season in Norway he went to Everton FC in January 2002 . Here the defensive midfielder finally made his breakthrough and was nominated for the Swedish national team for the 2002 World Cup in the summer . The young player played all four of Sweden's games at the World Cup and was considered one of the best players in the team that won the group in the difficult preliminary round before England and Argentina . In the round of 16, the team was unlucky enough to be eliminated after extra time against the surprise team from Senegal .

In the following season Tobias Linderoth had to fight his way back to the Everton team and the national team after a long injury break, which he finally succeeded and in 2004 he took part in a major tournament for the second time. At the 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal , he reached the quarter-finals again after a great preliminary round, where Sweden was eliminated this time even more unlucky after a penalty shoot-out against the Netherlands .

After the European Championship, he moved to the Danish club FC Copenhagen and was able to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany with the Swedish national team. With the club team he took part in the first editions of the Royal League , which was won against IFK Göteborg in 2005 and against Lillestrøm SK in 2006 .

Linderoth moved to Galatasaray Istanbul for the 2007/08 season . He signed there for three years. Linderoth scored his first goal for Galatasaray in the UEFA Cup game against FC Sion . The preparation for the second half of the 2007/2008 season he could not complete with his team because he suffered from a complicated hip injury and was operated on in the USA. Nevertheless, he was able to celebrate the Turkish championship title at the end of the season without having played another game of the season and was appointed to the national team by national coach Lars Lagerbäck for the European championship in 2008 despite the fitness deficit resulting from the injury . After he was only used sporadically, his contract was terminated by Galatasaray on January 22, 2010.

On December 3, 2010 it was announced that Tobias Linderoth, who had officially ended his career as an active footballer in November, is now part of the U17 coaching staff of his former club IF Elfsborg. In November 2011, he started training as a coach at the Swedish Association alongside Anders Andersson , Marcus Lantz , Erik Edman and Nils-Eric Johansson in a special course for players with at least five years of professional experience.
