Wroclaw dialect
The Breslau dialect (in the dialect Brasselsche Mundoart ) is the dialect previously spoken in Breslau . It belongs to the Silesian dialects .
Distribution area
The dialect was spoken in Wroclaw . After the flight and expulsion of the German-speaking population after the Second World War, this dialect is only spoken sporadically in Breslau and the diaspora and is acutely threatened with extinction.
Linguistic peculiarities
- Instead of the diminutive form "chen" that is predominant in standard German, an "l" was added:
Bench - bench, roll - roll, garden - garden, stick - sticks, sausage - sausage
- Often one simply added an "e", z. E.g .: bank - bank; Closet - in the closet
- "Ü" was formed into a short "i" z. E.g .: kitchen - kiche
- "Rt" changed to "tt", e.g. E.g .: cake - totte
- The people of Wroclaw were happy to emphasize the 2nd syllable even in polysyllabic words: Ad a lbertstraße,
Tunnel - Do e ll, Carousel - Kar u ssel
