Eugene Gerards

Eugen Gerards (born April 6, 1904 in Oestrich near Erkelenz ; † May 31, 1985 at the Hauerhof near Erkelenz) was a German farmer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending high school, Gerards completed an agricultural training and went to an agricultural college. From 1926 to 1932 he worked as an independent farmer on the 300 acre Hauerhof estate in Katzem near Erkelenz . From 1952 to 1970 he was chairman of the Rhineland municipal building association . On March 4, 1970 he was elected President of the Rhenish Beet Growers Association.

In 1954 he became the owner of the Passage Theater in Cologne.

Party, MP

Gerards had been a member of the CDU since 1948. From 1956 to 1969 he was a council member of the Lövenich community .

From July 21, 1958 to July 25, 1970 he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament .

He was a member of the 3rd Federal Assembly on July 1, 1959, when Heinrich Lübke was elected Federal President.

Honors

In 1966 Eugen Gerards was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested in Cologne Cathedral on February 22nd, 1966 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

In 1981 he was made the 16th honorary citizen of the city of Erkelenz for “creative joy, conscientiousness, truthfulness and justice”. In 1970 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
