Marcin Mięciel [ ˈmartɕin ˈmʲɛntɕɛl ] (born December 22, 1975 in Gdynia , Poland ) is a former Polish football player . He played in Poland until 2001, then in Germany and Greece in the respective top leagues. He played five games for the Polish national team between 1996 and 2002 , in which he scored one goal.
Club career
The striker Mięciel began his career at his youth club Wisła Tczew , for which he played until 1990 and then moved to Lechia Gdańsk . Here he played until December 1993, then moved to Hutnik Warsaw for half a year and then to city rivals Legia Warsaw . Mięciel stayed with Legia until 2001, interrupted by a loan to Łódzki KS in 1995.
Since his first - not very successful - season abroad in the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach, he has increased his performance in the Greek Superleague . In the 2004/05 season he met in 13 games (including two substitutions ) five times. In the following 2005/06 season he scored five goals in 25 games (including six substitutions). His most successful season as a footballer to date was the 2006/07 season, in which he scored 14 goals for PAOK Thessaloniki in 27 (of 30) games. As a top scorer , he was named Most Valuable Player by his club .
VfL Bochum signed him for the 2007/08 season . At the end of June 2009 he terminated his contract with VfL Bochum and moved to Poland to Legia Warsaw . For Legia, he appeared in 23 league games and scored five goals. Since the beginning of July 2010 Mięciel was under contract with Łódzki KS , but his contract was not extended in the summer of 2012.
In mid-August 2012, Mięciel moved to the fifth division UKS Łady .
Playing style and playing position
Mięciel is a center-forward with a body-hugging game who is both strong at the head and closes safely from a distance. His specialty are spectacular overhead kicks .
