Mikael Eklund (born September 14, 1981 ) is a Swedish football player . The defender won the Swedish championship and the Svenska Cup with Kalmar FF .

Career

Eklund started playing football at Forssa BK . In 2000 he moved to IK Brage . For the club he ran in the Superettan . After the team had to relegate to the third division at the end of the 2002 season as third-last , he left the club. Nevertheless, he came after the end of the season on November 20, 2002 for his only use for the Swedish U21 selection , when they parted with a 1-1 draw from the Czech junior national team .

Kalmar FF became Eklund's new employer. For the first division relegated, he was used in his first season in 28 of the 30 season games. After he was hardly used in the following two seasons due to injury, he was able to win a regular place in the course of the 2006 season. In the following season he reached with the team the runner-up title behind IFK Göteborg and reached the cup final. There he played through and celebrated the cup win after goals from César Santin , who scored twice, and Patrik Ingelsten . In the 2008 season he dominated the league with his team and became Swedish champions. The club missed the double through a defeat in the cup final against IFK Göteborg, in which Eklund did not participate. In the following season he suffered cruciate ligament damage for the second time in his career. Therefore, he only got one stake so that his contract was not extended.

In December 2009 Assyriska Föreningen announced his move to Superettan. He signed a contract with the second division for the 2010 season . In the opening game against FC Trollhättan he injured his cruciate ligament again and also suffered a meniscus damage. Subsequently, he remained without use in the further course of the season. In November he turned his back on the club and went to league rivals IK Brage, with whom he signed a trial contract until the end of the winter transfer period at the end of March due to his previous injury history . Ultimately, he stayed with the club and made 15 league appearances for the club due to injury. Nevertheless, in December he extended his contract for another year.
