Marcus Lindberg (born August 31, 1980 ) is a Swedish football player . The central defender became Swedish champions with Kalmar FF in the 2008 season .

Career

Club career

Lindberg first played at Kågeröds BOIF when he was young . In 1995 he moved to the youth team at Helsingborgs IF , where he later made his debut in the Allsvenskan . In 2005 he left the club because he was unable to assert himself and was hardly ever used. His new employer was the second division Mjällby AIF , where he was able to fight for a regular place in the defense. After the end of the 2007 season, his move to cup winners and runner-up Kalmar FF became known. There he was able to establish himself in central defense and win the Lennart Johansson Cup for the Swedish champions at the end of the season .

After Lindberg was only one of the supplementary players at Kalmar FF under coach Nanne Bergstrand , he started looking for a new club at the end of 2010. In December of that year he agreed a three-year contract with the second division club Ängelholms FF . With the club he took third place in the Superettan table at the end of the second division season 2011 , which entitled to participation in the relegation games to the Allsvenskan. There he met with the team around Sebastian Andersson , Mikael Dahlgren and Jakob Augustsson on Syrianska FC . After a 2-1 home win in the first leg, the second leg ended with a 1: 3 defeat by an own goal in stoppage time, Lindberg was sent off the field in the 81st minute of the second leg.

National team

Lindberg went through several youth selections in Sweden. On January 31, 2001 he came to his first appearance in the jersey of the senior team when he was substituted on in the 0-0 draw against the Faroese selection in the 20th minute for Fredrik Karlsson . The team consisted mainly of debutants like Zlatan Ibrahimović or Christian Wilhelmsson . A day later, he played his second international match: The six minutes after his substitution for Martin Ulander in the 84th minute of the game in the 1-0 defeat against Finland was also his last appearance in the selection.
