Hans "Hasse" Borg (born August 4, 1953 in Örebro ) is a former Swedish football player . The defender , who played 49 international matches for the Swedish national team between 1976 and 1985 , won two Swedish championships with Malmö FF .
Career
Club career
Borg started playing soccer when he was nine. At a game by BK Forward he was discovered by the coach of Örebro SK Orvar Bergmark , who signed him. The right full-back made his debut for the club in the Allsvenskan on April 13, 1974 when they drew 1-1 with Djurgårdens IF . As a result, he established himself in the team and missed almost no league game of the club.
During a game in the qualification for the 1978 World Cup in Switzerland in October 1976 , he drew the attention of those responsible at Eintracht Braunschweig with a strong performance and after months of negotiations he was signed by the German club in the summer of 1977 for a transfer fee of 800,000 Swedish kronor . Borg celebrated his competitive debut for Lower Saxony in the DFB Cup match against Eintracht Nordhorn at the end of July and soon established himself as a regular in the Bundesliga . Even after relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1980, he remained loyal to the club and managed to get promoted again. In the first division he made headlines in 1981 when he was fouled so badly by Emanuel Günther that he had to be hospitalized with a complicated broken leg. After a 3-1 defeat against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on the last matchday of the 1982/83 season , he said goodbye to German football after 139 Bundesliga appearances and seven first division goals.
Borg returned to Sweden and was hired by Malmö FF. In the 1986 and 1988 seasons he won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish champions with the club . At the club, he then ended his active career.
National team
Borg made his debut on February 28, 1976 in the 1-1 draw against the Tunisian national team in Tunis in the Swedish national jersey. With the country selection, he took part in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina and played all three preliminary round matches. After a draw against Brazil and defeats against Austria and Spain , the Swedish team was eliminated in the preliminary round. Until 1985 he was still on for the national selection, the qualification for another tournament was denied him.
After active football
In 1999, Borg took over the post of sports director at his last game station. Under his leadership, Malmö FF players like Zlatan Ibrahimović , Markus Rosenberg and Afonso Alves made it big, and in the 2004 season the club won the Swedish championship again after a 16-year break.
