Waveney was a district ( English district ) in the county of Suffolk in England . Administrative seat was Lowestoft , other important places were Beccles , Bungay , Halesworth and Southwold . The 2011 census counted 115,254 inhabitants, according to an official estimate for 2017 it was 117,900.

history

The district was formed with the entry into force of the Local Government Act on April 1, 1974 and emerged from the merger of the municipal boroughs Beccles, Lowestoft and Southwold, the urban districts of Bungay and Halesworth, the rural district of Wainford and part of the rural district of Lothingland. Due to an ordinance issued in May 2018, Waveney was merged with the south-bordering Suffolk Coastal to form the new East Suffolk District on April 1, 2019 .
