Babergh is one of five districts in the county of Suffolk in England . The administrative seat is Hadleigh ; the only other significant place is Sudbury . To the south, the River Stour forms the border between Suffolk and Essex .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of Borough Sudbury, Urban District Hadleigh and Rural Districts Cosford, Melford and Samford.
