Nelson Olveira , full name Nelson Artigas Olveira Romero , (born June 19, 1974 in Paso de los Toros ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach.

The 1.80 meter tall defensive player Olveira belonged at the beginning of his career in 1992 to Centro Atlético Fénix and from 1996 to mid-2001 of the team of Club Atlético Peñarol . During this period, the "Aurinegros" won the Uruguayan championship in 1996, 1997 and 1999. In the second half of 2001 he played for Huracán Buceo . From 2002 to mid-2003, Alianza Lima was his employer. From July 2003 to the end of June 2004 a career station followed at Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata . For the Argentinians he played at least eight league games and scored one goal. By the end of 2004, he then joined Universidad San Martín . From the Peruvians he moved to Independiente Santa Fe in Colombia for the next year and a half . In the 2006/07 season he was again in the Peñarols squad, played 15 games in the Primera División and scored once in the opposing goal. He spent the last six months of 2007 in the ranks of the Estudiantes de Mérida team . From 2008 onwards, he worked for Centro Atlético Fénix at the end of July 2009. For the club from Montevideo he completed ten first division games (no goal) in the Clausura 2008. For the 2009/10 season he signed the second division Miramar Misiones , in which he came ten times in the Segunda División and scored one goal. He then joined Boston River and was used in 15 second division matches (no goal) in the 2010/11 season. The last career station will be Central Español in the 2011/12 season . There are nine league appearances (no goal) in the second-highest Uruguayan league for him.

National team

Olveira was part of the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship in Colombia in 1992 . Uruguay finished the tournament as vice South American champion. During the tournament he was used by coach Ángel Castelnoble six times (no goal). With the junior selection , he played the Junior World Cup in 1993 .

Olveira made his debut on April 24, 1996 in the 2-0 away win in the World Cup qualifier against the Venezuelan selection in the Uruguayan senior team when he was ordered by coach Héctor Nuñez on the starting line-up. In the same year he was used again in the two international matches against Colombia (July 7, 1996) and Japan (August 25, 1996) by national coach Núñez in the "Celeste". He did not manage to score an international goal. There were also no further international assignments.

Coaching career

After his active career, Olveira started a career as a coach. On May 26, 2015, he and assistant Luis Abreu took over the position of head coach at the Rampla Juniors in the Primera División, limited to the two remaining season game days until June of that year . Even he could not prevent relegation at the end of the season. From September 2016 to April 2017 he coached the team of the Colombian club Boyacá Chicó FC .
