Paso de los Toros (literally Pass of the Bulls ) is a city in Uruguay .
location
It is located in the center of Uruguay on the Río Negro in the Tacuarembó department . To the west is the Baygorria reservoir, to the east is the Rincón del Bonete hydropower plant on the reservoir of the same name. Its distance to the southern state capital Montevideo , with which it is connected via the Ruta 5 , is around 250 km.
history
On July 1, 1953, Paso de los Toros was given Ciudad (city) status by Law No. 11,952 ( Ley 11,952 ).

Residents
With 12,985 inhabitants (as of 2011; 13,315 [1996]), 6,211 of them male and 6,774 female, it is the second largest city in the department after the capital Tacuarembó .
