Musical beginnings

He learned breakdancing and joined the Pure City Breakers crew . His musical favorites included Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five . Howlett his musical ideas intended to implement in their own songs and bought a Moog Prodigy - Synthesizer . The name of his later band is derived from this device. At the same time he won a mix competition as a DJ at Capitol Music. A little later he was picked up as a second DJ by a hip-hop band called Cut to Kill and thus had his first appearances. After graduating, he got a job at the London magazine Metropolitan . He quickly became friends with the editor and received £ 4,000 from him for the production of his first album. But since he was not fully accepted as a white DJ by the other band members, the production burst: The others signed - with the help of a song written by Howlett - a contract with a record company behind his back. Howlett then split from the band. In the meantime, acid house dominated in England . The rave culture that developed from it also influenced Howlett. After attending a rave party for the first time in 1989, he was hired as a DJ at The Barn disco in Braintree . Here he met his later bandmates Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill

The Prodigy

In 1990 Howlett founded The Prodigy with Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill . The band can be found in the genres Big Beat , Breaks , Electropunk , Hardcore and Techno . Howlett works within the band as a writer (music / text), DJ , keyboard player and music producer . The band has released six studio albums and over 30 singles to date. The album The Fat of the Land was among the top charts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United States and their home in Great Britain. In addition, the album received multiple gold and platinum awards in all of these countries.

Other Projects

In 1998 Howlett made some remixes for the Mary Anne Hobbs radio show . During this assignment he edited some of his old favorites. In February 1999 he released an edited version of the mix, the first material recorded in his new home studio, "The Dirtchamber". The album was given the title Prodigy Present The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One , although it was actually a solo album by Howlett.

In late January 2006, a compilation album entitled Back to Mine : Liam Prodigy , a collection of Howlett's favorite songs, was released. There was also a Prodigy track called Wake the Fuck Up . This was often used as an intro in The Prodigys live concerts.
