Intervision song competition
The Intervision song competition was probably organized in response to the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson by Intervision , the program exchange network of the television companies in the socialist countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Mongolia, Austria and Finland, and took place from 1977 to 1980 . The venue was always the Opera Leśna in Sopot, Poland .
The Intervision song competition replaced the International Sopot Festival from 1977 to 1980 , which had been held in Sopot since 1961. From 1984 the Polish television TVP continued the competition under its old name, the International Sopot Festival.
In 2008 there was a first attempt in Russia to re-establish a song competition under the name Intervision. The qualifying took place in Sochi . For the year 2014, there were also efforts to hold a competition with the traditional name in Sochi, Russia, for which a Russian preliminary decision was also held. The competition was canceled for "political reasons". Another attempt for 2015 has also been postponed. The majority state Russian television broadcaster Erste Kanal was responsible . In addition to the former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, the People's Republic of China should also take part in the competition. Apparently all CIS member states and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization should be eligible to participate. These competitions had nothing to do with the no longer existing television program exchange organization Intervision.
