200 (punk band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

200 (pronounced tveyhundrað [ ˈtvɛiˌhʊndɹa ], Faroese for the number 200) is a punk band from the Faroe Islands . The name alludes to a "200%" political stance in favor of the Faroe Islands' detachment from Denmark.

200 consists of three musicians, front man Niels Arge Galán, drummer Uni Árting and the well-known bassist Mikael Blak, who for example also plays with the renowned Faroese / Nordic jazz band Yggdrasil and accompanied Eivør Pálsdóttir's debut album (jazz / folk).

200 is one of the most popular rock bands in the Faroe Islands. She made her debut at the Prix Føroyar in 2001 and has since released two albums that won over not only Faroese but also Icelandic critics, one of whom said:

If you don't know Faroese punk, you don't know what punk is about.

Her texts are exclusively in Faroese and are politically "200% ig" behind the goals of the left-wing Republican Tjóðveldisflokkurin , who is striving to break away from Denmark . However, the band packs their message with the necessary pinch of self-irony and humor.

On a T-shirt, for example, 200 advertises with the slogan Okkara einasta kongshús er Graceland (our only royal family is Graceland ), alluding to the Danish monarchy and the King of Rock'n Roll Elvis Presley .

In 2005 the band experienced a comeback with their album Viva La Republica , which won one of the 14 national music awards at the Atlantic Music Event , which were awarded for the first time - for the best CD cover.

The track Muscleman-blað stayed at number one on the Faroese charts for several weeks. Tveyhundrað clearly advocates homosexuals, who enjoy a worse legal status in the Faroe Islands than in Denmark.

For the Ólavsøka exhibition in 2005, the Faroe Islands Art Museum showed a 2.9-meter-high paper mache sculpture , a silver-colored, illuminated, rotating, fire and smoke-spewing stinky finger , which also comes from the forge in Tveyhundrað and is normally used as a stage decoration.

In early 2006 Viva la Republica was released as a long-playing record . It is the first Faroese LP since around 1990.
