Graceland

Graceland is the former home of Elvis Presley in the Whitehaven neighborhood of southern Memphis , Tennessee . It was opened to the public as a museum in 1982 . The property has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1991 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006 .

The house is named after Stephen C. Toof's daughter Grace , who inherited the farm from her father in 1894.

Elvis Presley moved into the house in the spring of 1957. On August 16, 1977, he was found dead in his bathroom at Graceland. In October 1977 he was buried in the property's meditation garden.

On June 7, 1982, the property of Elvis' former wife Priscilla Presley was opened to the public as a museum . Graceland has been a fanatic pilgrimage ever since . Over 650,000 people visit the property every year.

Graceland has been listed as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places since November 7, 1991 , making it a listed building.

On March 27, 2006, Graceland was also designated a National Historic Landmark .

Gracelands annually over 650,000 visitors can walk through the property by means of an audio tour . The tour leads through the living rooms and kitchen of the house as well as through the TV and billiard rooms with bar in the basement. Also the jungle room , in which Elvis Presley in February and October 1976 his last two albums From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee and Moody Blue can be visited. The second floor, however, is not open to the public.

The tour ends outside the building at Presley's grave.

Collections

The room where Elvis Presley's awards and memorabilia can be viewed is outside the main house. It displays a large collection of platinum and gold records, as well as other trophies that the artist received throughout his career. You can also see stage costumes, photographs and other collectibles from the musician's life.

In the Presley Motors Automobile Museum , which opened on June 12, 1989 , directly opposite Villa Graceland, the vehicle collection of Elvis Presley is presented. Highlights of the museum include the famous pink Cadillac ( Cadillac Fleetwood from 1955), a 1956 Cadillac Eldorado , a 1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT 4 , a black Stutz Blackhawk III from 1973 and the Harley-Davidson motorcycles .

The two planes "Lisa Marie" (a Convair CV-880 ) and "Hound Dog II" (a Lockheed JetStar ) are on display near the museum building .
