Høgni Lisberg (2005)

Høgni Lisberg (born June 7, 1982 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands , comes from Leirvík on Eysturoy ) is a Faroese musician who is considered one of the most talented young songwriters in the country. As Høgni he is now pursuing his own solo career.

Life

Høgni was born in 1982 to Sørin Lisberg from Vágur and Hallbjørg Eliassen from Leirvík. His father is the son of Knút Lisberg, a cousin of Jens Oliver Lisberg (1896–1920) from Fámjin , where Høgni's great-grandfather (and Jens Oliver's uncle) Johan í Smiðjuni lived. Høgni grew up with his two younger sisters in Leirvík, where he lived until he moved to Copenhagen in 2004.

At the age of nine he learned drums in the local music school and played as a drummer in various brass bands until he was 15 years old. Then he started drumming in various rock and pop bands, of which Clickhaze and her front woman Eivør Pálsdóttir from the neighboring village Syðrugøta not only won the Prix Føroyar in 2001 , but also played at the Roskilde Festival and was one of the most important Faroese rock groups to date. Høgni was part of the band from beginning to end (1998-2003).

In addition to this career as a drummer, he learned the guitar at the age of eleven . He was helped by his father, who didn't know more than three chords, and later a guitarist who was considered the best in Leirvík. He more or less taught himself the rest. When he was 12/13 years old, he wrote songs for the guitar himself, but was so shocked by the experience of hearing his own voice on tape that he gave it up for the time being. He didn't start again until he was 17 and now resolved to work on the songs until they were ready for his ears, which he didn't succeed. It wasn't until Høgni Lisberg was 20 that he bought a hard disk recorder , with which he got to know his voice and practiced it until he could finally stand it himself. That gave him the necessary boost to perfect himself as a singer. Now he has produced his first songs that can be described as really finished.

With his bandmate Jens L. Thomsen , the bassist of Clickhaze, he recorded a demo in the spring of 2003, and this led to the desire for his own CD. In autumn 2003 Jens Thomsen recorded the debut album Most Beautiful Things by Høgni Lisberg at Stranda Bio (the empty cinema in Strendur village ). It was mixed in Peter Gabriel's “Real Worl Studios” and was released in December of that year by Kristian Blak's Faroese label Tutl . Høgni Lisberg played all the instruments on the CD himself.

Since then he has concentrated on his career as a singer-songwriter in the fields of pop music and folk rock . He uses various musicians for his live performances. Høgni is particularly well-known in the German-speaking area in Switzerland due to the “Faroe Connection” of the Tonart record shop in St. Gallen . Here, for example, he got a large article in the SonntagsZeitung . But he has also been played on the radio in Germany and the USA, while he is one of the better-known musicians of his genre throughout Scandinavia.

The second solo album Morning Dew came out in late 2005 and immediately became a bestseller in the Faroe Islands. It won the Planet Award 2006, the newspaper sosialurin as best album of the Faroe Islands , and was occasionally played in Belgium every day on the radio. On November 13th 2006 the album came out in Denmark, where Høgni now has his permanent residence. 2006 was also the breakthrough year in Iceland with concerts, television and radio appearances.

The single Learn To Ride On Waves was number 3 in the Faroe Islands' overall charts of the Faroese radio Útvarp Føroya for 2006. It was in the charts for a total of 15 weeks, including 5 weeks at number 1. The only artist was Høgni Lisberg another title among the top 20: Just Dig in 12th place.
