Kristian Blak (born March 31, 1947 in Fredericia ) is a Danish- Faroese pianist and composer . He deals with classical music as well as with jazz and rock . The nature of the Faroe Islands and other Nordic countries ( Greenland , Iceland ) has a great influence on his music.

Live and act

After studying classical music at Aarhus University with the degree cand. Mag. and working as a teacher in Aarhus, Kristian Blak moved from Denmark to the Faroe Islands in 1974 , where most of his work was written. From 1974 to 1998 he worked as a music and French teacher at the Faroe Islands high school. Between 1977 and 2003 records with music with and / or by Kristian Blak were released, most of them on the label Tutl , which he founded himself . His outstanding compositions include the Ravnating suite (The Council of Ravens). Guest performances have taken Blak to several European countries (including participation in festivals in Germany ). Blak sometimes appears alone (at the piano), but often with groups in small and large ensembles. Since 1981 he has been working with the fusion group Yggdrasil , with which Eivør Pálsdóttir also appears. He also accompanied Karsten Vogel on his album Light when Dark .

Kristian Blak has been married to Sharon Weiss of Lexington, MA , since November 1977 . The couple has three children Mikael , Sámal and Rebekka.
