Jón Tyril [ jɔun ˈtiːrɪl ] (born December 23, 1973 in Gøta , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese rock musician and music manager.

Jón Tyril is the son of Sunneva and Flóvin Tyril and grew up in Norðragøta.

In 1998, Jón Tyril co-founded the Grót musicians' group , which together with the Losjan venue in Gøta established a creative music scene. In the same year he and others founded the band Clickhaze , which won the Prix ​​Føroyar in 2002 and is one of the most important Faroese bands of all time.

Successful artists such as Eivør Pálsdóttir , Høgni Lisberg , Petur Pólson and Orca (Jens L. Thomsen) emerged from the band . Jón Tyril was the producer of Clickhaze, played guitar there and wrote some of the songs.

In 2001 he was the organizer and producer of the Free Føroyar concept, which was taken over by the youth organization Unga Tjóðveldið (the left-wing Republican Tjóðveldi party ) after the first concert .

After Clickhaze broke up, Jón Tyril started the G! Festival . It was the first ever open-air festival in the Faroe Islands and quickly became one of the largest annual events in the country. In 2005 he received the national culture award Mentanarvirðisløn MA Jacobsens for special cultural achievements.

Jón Tyril is also the organizer of the national competitions for the GBOB (Global Battle of the Bands) and works closely with the GBOB winner Boys in a Band .

In 2002, Jón Tyril was Løgtingskandidat for the left-wing Republican Tjóðveldisflokkurin , but was not elected and later resigned from the party. He describes himself as a supporter of libertarianism and existentialism and participates among other things. a. as a moderator of the largest Faroese internet forum kjak.fo in the social debate.
