I Was A Male Sex Bomb (Original Title: Un monsieur de compagnie) is a French comedy film directed by Philippe de Broca from 1964 with Jean-Pierre Cassel and Catherine Deneuve . The novel of the same name (1961) by André Couteaux served as a literary model .

action

Antoine grows up carefree with his wealthy grandfather. Accustomed to the luxury and believing that he can get anything without having to do anything, he spends most of his time daydreamer and prefers to go fishing. But when his grandfather dies and the source of money runs dry, Antoine is forced to change his lifestyle and earn money. His laziness stands in the way of this project, which is why he prefers to rely on his enormous charm, which he knows how to use to his advantage.

He met Nicole and Balthasar at Montmartre in Paris . The couple are delighted by Antoine's charm and are very generous. But when the two have had enough of his laziness and push him to work, Antoine goes on his way again. He meets a prince and numerous other people, at whose expense he lives for a while. But in the end he has no choice but to earn his own bread.

Reviews

According to the lexicon of international films , director de Broca has "[the] dream of a lazy man, that he could easily get through life with his irresistible charm, [...] in his own comedy tone". "His sympathy" lies entirely with "his work-shy hero". The Protestant film observer described I was a male sex bomb as a “comedy film about a lounger with an abundance of charming, if somewhat randomly strung together scenes”. The end is unsatisfactory and the film is only suitable for an "adult audience".
