Giustino Durano (born May 5, 1923 in Brindisi , † February 18, 2002 in Bologna ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Durano started his acting career in revue theaters and on the radio. In 1953 he played alongside Franco Parenti and Dario Fo in Il dito nell'occhio , which the three actors had also written, like I sani da legare the following year . After separating from colleagues, Il carettere cubitale e Cartastraccia followed . In 1957 Durano appeared next to Wanda Osiris in the revue Okay Fortuna! which was followed by the traditional I fuoriserie , also alongside Osiris. A failure was the piece Ssssst…, which was too intellectual for a broad audience . For many years his last play Durano played alongside Erminio Macario and Lucy D'Albert in 1959 when they staged Chiamate Arturo 777 .

In the meantime the film had asked; After a few smaller roles in 1954 and the following year, Durano concentrated on the cinema from 1959, where he offered character representations in commercially successful, but artistically mostly uninteresting productions that were not equal to his reputation on the stage. That is why he returned there in 1969 - at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano he played Bertolt Brecht under the director Giorgio Strehler . Occasionally continuing to work for the cinema and also occasionally for television, Durano achieved a very late great success with his interpretation of Life is Beautiful 1997, which was awarded the Nastro d'Argento for Best Supporting Actor .

From 1955 to 1964 Durano was married to the actress Grazella Galvani .
