Memmo Carotenuto (actually Guglielmo Carotenuto ; born July 24, 1908 in Rome , † December 23, 1980 ibid) was an Italian actor .

Life

The son of the actors and actresses Nello Carotenuto and Angela Grasso and brother of Mario started as a theater actor at the age of 8 when he played in the theater company of Bacci / Gambini. After graduating as an accountant in 1925, he began his professional career as an actor in the revue "Achille Maresca 2" in the same year and continued it in 1927 as a member of the ensemble of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's "Teatro futurista" , which played a short but important role in the theatrical landscape of that time. After engagements in secondary Romanesco dialect theaters, Carotenuto shifted his focus to film; however not as an actor, but as a make-up artist. As a result, until 1950 he only appeared in a few and small roles on the screen.

1951 began an extremely productive cinema phase in which Carotenuto interpreted angular or finicky, impulsive and generous, but always good-hearted Roman characters with an unmistakably hoarse and deep voice and a good portion of irony and in which he interpreted in 1956, during his most intense time, for his Representation in bigamy is no pleasure with a silver ribbon as best supporting actor. After a five-year break between 1966 and 1970, the rather tall actor continued his film career until his death.

His son Bruno also starred in a handful of films.
