Henri Garcin
Henri Garcin (born April 11, 1929 in Antwerp , Belgium ; actually Anton Albers ) is a French theater and film actor of Dutch origin.
Life
Henri Garcin was born in Antwerp in 1929 as Anton Albers. At the age of 22 he went to Paris , where he trained as an actor at the Cours Simon . At first he tried his hand at cabaret and got to know Jacques Brel , Serge Gainsbourg , Jean Poiret and Michel Serrault . Then he turned to the theater. In 1956 he stood in front of the film camera for the first time. In the film comedy Life in the Castle by Jean-Paul Rappeneau , he appeared in 1966 as a French resistance fighter on the side of Catherine Deneuve and Philippe Noiret . In 1974 he appeared in The Wild Sheep , directed by Michel Deville, alongside Jean-Louis Trintignant and Romy Schneider . In 1981 he played Fanny Ardant's husband in François Truffaut's drama The Woman Next Door . He also appeared regularly as an actor on French television. From 1985 to 1993 he played the role of neighbor Pierre Brettevolle in over 300 episodes of the comedy series Maguy , which was a French version of the US sitcom Maude .
In addition to French , Garcin speaks fluent Dutch . He has appeared in several films by Dutch director Alex van Warmerdam , such as Noorderlingen (1992), The Mysterious Dress (1996) and the film drama Grimm (2003) based on the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel . Over the years he has appeared in more than a hundred films, mostly as a supporting actor. From the 1950s he was also seen on stage in numerous plays, including by Shaw , Pirandello , Strindberg and Oscar Wilde . A piece he wrote under the title L'Échappée belle was successfully performed under his direction in 1964 at the Théâtre La Bruyère. In 1989 he was nominated for the Molière , the most important French theater award, in the category Best Supporting Actor for his performance in a production of Alan Ayckbourn's Just Between Ourselves .
Henri Garcin lives in Paris and has a daughter. In 2018 he published his autobiography under the title Longtemps, je me suis couché tard .
