The KMU health insurance , based in Winterthur, was a Swiss insurance company specialized in health insurance . Its core business was compulsory health insurance according to the KVG and supplementary insurance. At the beginning of 2015, 6,752 people were insured with the health insurance company.
history
The company goes back to the «Sickness Association of the Gentlemen of Winterthur Tradesmen», which was founded in 1836 and campaigned for the establishment of a hospital in Winterthur. This association was the forerunner of today's health insurance, which until 2003 was still called “KGW Krankenkasse der Gewerbetreibenden Winterthur”. Due to high deficits, the SME health insurance was integrated into the ÖKK on January 1, 2017 .
