Andreas Katsulas (born May 18, 1946 in St. Louis , Missouri , † February 13, 2006 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Katsulas was born in St. Louis in 1946 to Greek-American parents. He studied theater at St. Louis University and received his Masters in theater from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1969 . In 1971 he joined the Peter Brooks Center International de Recherche Théâtrale (CIRT) in Paris , an organization and theater formation whose aim was to develop new experimental forms of theater. He stayed there for 15 years, until 1986, during which time he played at numerous international theater festivals and on theater stages in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Andreas Katsulas made his first film appearances in 1979 in the French film Série Noire and the Greek-German co-production Milo-Milo . In 1986, he moved to Los Angeles and appeared in two major American films: The Sicilian by Michael Cimino and Ridley Scott's Someone to Watch Over . Since then, Katsulas has made numerous appearances in film and television. Among his best known roles include that of the armed villain Frederic Sykes in the film The Fugitive of 1993 and that of the alien ambassador G'Kar in the science fiction - television series Babylon 5 , which was produced from 1993 1998. He last appeared in front of the camera as G'Kar for the Babylon 5 television film Legend of the Rangers in 2002 .

He was seen in many other roles on television. In the television series Starship Enterprise - The Next Century , he appeared in several episodes as Romulan Commander Tomalak . In the series Star Trek: Enterprise , he played a vissian captain in the episode Cogenitor . He had other guest appearances in Spacecop LA , Hunter , Murder is Her Hobby , Millennium - Fear Your Neighbor as Yourself , New York Cops - NYPD Blue and Diagnosis: Murder . In 1998, Katsulas recorded a CD, The BeFive , with some of his fellow actors from Babylon 5 , on which he sings two songs.

Andreas Katsulas died of lung cancer on February 13, 2006 at the age of 59 . The Babylon 5 DVD Forgotten Legends contains the obituary of some colleagues and the director Joseph Michael Straczynski , in which some anecdotes from the time on the set of Babylon 5 are told.
