Babylon 5: The First Step (alternate title: Babylon 5 - The Beginning of the Future ) is an American science fiction film from 1998 . It is the first of four films in the Babylon television series . The film was released in Germany on April 5, 1999 on VHS .
action
The framework of "The First Step" takes place 16 years after the plot of the television series in the Imperial Palace on Centauri Prime. Shortly before his death, Londo Mollari , who is now significantly aged, tells a story to two children living in the palace - the story of the Earth-Minbari War that began around 35 years earlier. Londo does not fixate on one storyline, but deals with almost all of the main characters of the television series and their respective roles in the war. He addresses important episodes of the war, some of which are already known from the television series and were shown there in more or less detail: The first contact between humans and Minbari and Dukhat's death, the destruction of the Black Star by John Sheridan , the role of the Centauri in War, Jeffrey Sinclair's blackout, and the Minbari surrender in the decisive battle.
useful information
Through recaps, mentions, and memories, viewers of the television series learn more and more about the events of the war over the course of the first four seasons. The film takes up these events and continues to tell them, for the first time in chronological order and in context. For this purpose, old scenes were partially reused in order to save costs and to maintain a certain consistency with the episodes of the series in which these excerpts already appeared.
Due to the interplay of the framework story in the future and the main story in the past, this film is primarily a prequel , and only secondarily a continuation of the television series.
The main plot of the film in the imperial palace forms a unit with some scenes from the series “A Thousand Years Through Time” of the third season, in which a glimpse into the future - at precisely this place at precisely this time - is cast.
