45 1 The shadow ship Matters of Honor Nov 6, 1995 22 Sep 1996 Kevin G. Cremin J. Michael Straczynski 301
A ranger named Marcus Cole escapes under heavy fire from the Drazi colony, Zagros 7, and sets course for Babylon 5. There, David Endawi, an Earth intelligence agent, arrives. He investigates the origin of the foreign ship that Waren Keffer recorded shortly before his death (see S2E22). To this end, he asked various ambassadors. Londo only knows it from a dream in which many of the ships on Centauri Prime fly over him. G'Kar shows Endawi records from an ancient sacred book about an ancient, powerful race. Delenn initially pretends not to know what it is, but she reveals to Sheridan that it is a ship of the shadows. Cole has since arrived and reports to Delenn that Zagros 7 has been cordoned off from Centauri mines and shadow ships. There is a ranger training camp there. Delenn and Cole lead Sheridan and Ivanova to a new, secretly developed spaceship, with technology from Minbari and Vorlons, the "White Star". Sheridan is in command. They take the ship to Zagros 7, engage the shadows in a fight and thus enable the rangers to escape.

Londo is now terminating his partnership with Morden, who then turns to Lord Refa. Morden informs Londo of the conditions that cast the shadows. Allegedly they want to divide the galaxy with the Centauri and are particularly interested in the Zagros 7 colony, which his new partner Refa should have mined on behalf of the Shadows.

On earth, Endawi presented his final report and concluded that no one on Babylon 5 had any useful information. As he leaves the room, Morden and a psi-cop appear. The latter suggests that the threat to Earth from unknown aliens could be helpful for their goals.

Sheridan establishes a council of war on Babylon 5 in preparation for what is to come.

46 2 Bomb terror Convictions Nov 13, 1995 29 Sep 1996 Mike Vejar J. Michael Straczynski 302
A series of heavy bombings shakes Babylon 5. Obviously, the assassin's goal is to spread chaos and terror. In one of the explosions, Lennier is seriously injured while saving Londo's life. In another attack, Londo is locked in an elevator with G'Kar. The two threaten to run out of breath, but G'Kar looks forward to seeing Londo die. Ivanova has an idea how to track down the assassin: Recently some monks, led by Brother Theo, came to the station to start a mission. They are supposed to evaluate the large amount of recordings from the surveillance cameras at the attack sites. The monks do not take long to ask and soon notice a person who is always near the explosions. The assassin's quarters are surrounded. He demands to be allowed to leave the station. He placed a bomb on the fusion reactor that could destroy all of Babylon 5. Garibaldi has the bomb removed unnoticed - when the trigger is finally pulled, it explodes at a safe distance. The assassin is overwhelmed and Londo and G'Kar are found in time.
47 3 24 hours to the end A day in the strife Nov 20, 1995 Oct 6, 1996 David J. Eagle J. Michael Straczynski 303
A probe of unknown origin arrives at the station. It transmits a series of sometimes very demanding questions from various fields of knowledge and threatens to destroy the station if these questions are not answered within a certain period of time. New technologies are promised for the correct answers. With the help of specialists on Earth, the questions can be answered, but Sheridan's doubts. He suspects that the probe has the task of tracking down progressive peoples and eliminating them. His suspicions are confirmed: the probe withdraws if there are no answers and only detonates at a great distance when the data is finally sent.

The Centauri authorize the Narn Na'Far to represent the Narn at the station and to send G'Kar back to his homeworld to be tried. Na'Far is accompanied by Ta'Lon, the Narn who was once kidnapped together with Sheridan (see S2E11). Sheridan refuses and although G'Kar wants to leave first out of concern for the safety of his people, Ta'Lon and other Narn persuade him to stay on the station.

Dr. Franklin becomes more and more addicted to stimulants.

At Londo's request, his attaché Vir Cotto is sent to Minbar to work as an ambassador.

48 4th The writing made of blood Passing through Gethsemane Nov. 27, 1995 Oct 13, 1996 Adam Nimoy J. Michael Straczynski 305
Brother Edward, one of the monks who recently went to Babylon 5, found the blood-smeared writing "Death walks among you" on the wall of his quarters. Shortly afterwards, he is plagued by visions of terrible crimes. It turns out that Edward was once a mass murderer whose personality was telepathically erased as punishment. From now on it should serve the general public. Relatives of his victims, led by Malcom, have discovered his new identity and with the help of a telepath have ensured that Edward's memories come back. They eventually take revenge on Edward and kill him. Shortly thereafter, Brother Theo Sheridan introduces a new member of his order who recently came to the ward: it is Malcom, whose personality was erased because of the murder of Edward.

Lyta Alexander has returned to Babylon 5 after having been on the Vorlon homeworld in the meantime, which normally no representative of other races is allowed to do. She also has a particularly close relationship with Ambassador Kosh.

49 5 The proof Voices of Authority Jan. 29, 1996 Oct 20, 1996 Menachem Binetski J. Michael Straczynski 304
In order to win allies in the upcoming fight against the shadows, Delenn contacts Draal, who still controls the big machine on Epsilon III (see S1E19). Ivanova visits the planet and connects herself to the machine. There she has two visions. On the one hand, she learns that an ancient species can be found on the planet Sigma 957 (see S1E06), which could prove to be a potential ally. She also sees an older transmission that proves that President Clark is jointly responsible for the assassination attempt on his predecessor Santiago. Ivanova has the transmission recorded. Sheridan, who waited a long time for such a proof (cf. S2E13), immediately transmits it to earth.

Meanwhile, Sheridan gets political advisor Julie Musante from the Earth government, which considers his latest decisions in the Narn Centauri War to be questionable. He makes it clear that he doesn't think so. He is also concerned that Musante will expose his plot against Clark. However, due to the turmoil caused by the submitted evidence on Earth, Musante is withdrawn again.

Ivanova and Cole go to Sigma 957 to make contact with the ancient species. They succeed and the aliens promise to be there when the time comes.

50 6th The self-experiment Dust to Dust Feb 5, 1996 Oct 27, 1996 David J. Eagle J. Michael Straczynski 306
Alfred Bester arrives again on Babylon 5. To protect their secret activities, the station's command staff can be shielded by Minbari telepaths. Bester also has to be injected with a serum that temporarily suppresses his mind reading skills. He informs the crew that a dealer has come to Babylon 5 for a drug called Dust. This drug allows the user to briefly invade someone else's mind. The Psi-Corps wants to stop the trade. Since the Narn are the only people who do not have telepaths, G'Kar is accordingly interested in the drug and meets the seller. He insists on a trial and tests the drug on himself. Intoxicated, he seeks out his enemy Londo to read his mind. He forcibly enters his quarters and knocks Londo down. In Londo's mind he realizes that he was responsible for the destruction of the Narn base in quadrant 37 (cf. S1E22). Then he has a vision of his father speaking to him: He tells G'Kar that the Narn are on the verge of destruction and should finally let go of their hatred. The cycle of death with the Centauri must come to an end, otherwise both sides would perish in the end. In addition, the Narn would have to be willing to make great sacrifices in order to survive the coming war. G'Kar doesn't realize that it is really Kosh who is speaking to him. Bester and Garibaldi have since managed to track down the drug dealer, whereupon Bester leaves again. After his arrest, G'Kar pleads guilty and has to be detained for 60 days.
51 7th The guardians of knowledge Exogenesis Feb 12, 1996 Nov 3, 1996 Kevin G. Cremin J. Michael Straczynski 307
Dr. Franklin is investigating several deaths in which a parasite is found on the victim's spine. When Duncan, a friend of Marcus Cole, also disappears, Cole and Franklin go on a search on the lowest level of the station. There they meet several people, including Duncan, who are standing around an unconscious man who has also been infected by a parasite. Because of their observation, Cole and Franklin are captured. Duncan explains the background: The parasites belong to the species of Vindrizi. They were once created as living recorders that store all of their host's knowledge so that this knowledge is not lost. On Babylon 5, the Vindrizi are now looking for hosts who are looking for a new meaning in their lives and who will voluntarily enter into the connection. The deaths are due to some bodies rejecting the parasite. The two finally manage to escape; they don't trust the Vindrizi and their goals. Then Duncan's parasite leaves his body and Duncan, now himself again, can convince Cole of the opposite. Franklin tolerates the Vindrizi's mission but insists on medically monitoring future connections with a host.

Ivanova tries to win the young officer David Corwin over to the resistance against President Clark. However, she notes that he is unwilling to question orders from the Earth Government.

52 8th The web of lies Messages from Earth Feb 19, 1996 Nov 10, 1996 Mike Vejar J. Michael Straczynski 308
Marcus Cole introduces Sheridan's secret war council to Dr. Mary Kirkish, who is being pursued by bounty hunters. She has knowledge that the government wants to keep the earth under lock and key: a few years ago she took part in an excavation on Mars, during which a ship of the shadows was discovered. The earth center ordered the team to move away from the ship, whereupon a second shadow ship appeared shortly afterwards and dug up the first. Both ships flew away. There were also indications that the Psi Corps was involved. A few weeks ago, Kirkish was sent to another shadow ship excavation, this time on Jupiter's moon Ganymede. The Earth Government now plans to keep the ship and use the technology for its own purposes. Sheridan and Delenn set out on a secret mission with the White Star to destroy the shadow ship. Since the Earth's White Star is unknown, nobody knows that Sheridan is behind it. At Ganymede, the two witnesses how the shadow ship is being "equipped" with a person. Delenn explains that shadow ships need living beings as control units. When man finally merges with the ship, it comes to life, is completely out of control and destroys everything around it. Sheridan can turn off the ship with a daring maneuver in the Jupiter atmosphere and escape undetected.

There has been an uproar on earth since President Clark was linked to the attack on Santiago (see S3E05). This puts the organization Nightwatch (cf. S2E16) on high alert on Babylon 5, which is why they ask their informers to research even more meticulously for harmful ideas. Large waves of arrests are announced. The Babylon 5 headquarters are also under suspicion. After all, martial law is proclaimed on earth.

In the meantime, G'Kar begins to write a philosophical book in his prison cell.

53 9 Martial law Point of no return Feb. 26, 1996 Nov 17, 1996 Jim Johnston J. Michael Straczynski 309
After President Clark proclaimed martial law, events roll over. General William Hague openly rebels against the Earth government and flees Clark's fleet with his destroyer. On Babylon 5, Nightwatch is ordered to take over security on the station. Garibaldi protests and is removed from his post by Nightwatch. When martial law reaches the station, Sheridan also begins an open rebellion: with the help of Zack Allan, he lures the members of Nightwatch into a trap and arrests them for mutiny. He justifies this with the fact that Nightwatch did not receive its orders, as actually required, from the military, but from a political authority. Further support comes from G'Kar, who is released early from prison due to the unrest. He ensures that the station's security personnel are replaced by Narn, who report to Sheridan and Garibaldi. Sheridan and Ivanova expect Clark to take on Babylon 5 soon.

Londo receives a visit from the Centauri seer Lady Morella. She prophesies Londo and Vir that both will one day be emperors of the Centauri Republic. Accordingly, one of the two will hold this office when the other has died.

54 10 The punitive action Severed Dreams Apr 1, 1996 Nov 24, 1996 David J. Eagle J. Michael Straczynski 310
Major Ryan, who served under General William Hague, arrives at the station with his destroyer. He reports that Hague was killed fighting President Clark’s warships. Earth forces are also bombing the renegade colony on Mars, causing other colonies to break away from Earth. A spokesman for the most important news network on earth, ISN, announced live that the program has been censored since Clark took office, whereupon the transmission was canceled.

The shadows have begun to incite several peoples against each other and to engage them in wars. Delenn meets the Gray Council and accuses them of inaction in the face of this threat because the warrior caste is unwilling to intervene in what is happening. However, Delenn is able to convince members of the religious as well as the working class to act. The council is divided and the cast gap is growing.

Another destroyer of the earth arrives at Babylon 5. Commander Hiroshi informs Sheridan that Earth intends to take the station shortly and joins the resistance. Sheridan is now openly against Clark and declares independence from Babylon 5. Two destroyers with loyal crew finally arrive and a battle ensues. Clark's soldiers invade the station, but with the help of the Narn security personnel they can be defeated with heavy losses. Sheridan also destroys Clark's ships, along with Ryan and Hiroshi's ships, who are killed in the process. But then a second wave of Clark-loyal ships arrives. When Sheridan almost surrenders, Delenn appears with three Minbari cruisers and forces the besiegers to retreat.

55 11 A new beginning Ceremonies of Light and Dark Apr 8, 1996 Dec. 1, 1996 John C. Flinn III J. Michael Straczynski 311
The Nightwatch members leave Babylon 5, but some remain on the station and make plans against Sheridan. Delenn would like to use the time of upheaval for a rebirth ceremony, in which each participant should reveal a secret and leave something behind that means a lot to them. Since everyone is busy with other things, nobody is interested in it at first. Delenn receives the Minbari Captain Lennan and one of his officers and wants to show them the station. Lennan's ship is one of the Minbari cruisers that recently began guarding Babylon 5. Shortly afterwards, the three of them are kidnapped by Nightwatch members. The kidnappers demand the withdrawal of the Minbari ships so that Babylon 5 can fall back under control of Earth. To add to the emphasis, they kill Lennan's officer. Sheridan and Garibaldi are finally able to free the other two hostages, but Delenn is seriously injured. In the infirmary, she recovers quickly and is still able to carry out the rebirth ceremony: Little by little, the leaders of the ward come to her sick bed and leave their previous uniform of the earth forces behind. Sheridan confesses his love for her to Delenn for the first time; Garibaldi tells of his fear of losing control of himself. Ivanova reveals her former affection for Talia Winters, and Franklin refers to his addiction to stimulants. Then they all present themselves in new Babylon 5 uniforms.

Londo suspects that the shadows will one day turn against the Centauri and therefore calls on Refa to end his partnership with murders (cf. S3E01). To force Refa to take this step, he adds one component of a poison to Refa's drink and threatens to administer the second component if Refa does not comply.

56 12 A true Centauri Sic Transit Vir Apr 15, 1996 Dec 8, 1996 Jesus Trevino J. Michael Straczynski 313
Vir Cotto visits Babylon 5 and Londo has a surprise for him: Vir's relatives arranged for him to marry the Centauri Lyndisty, who has also recently been on the ward. At the same time, Zack Allan becomes aware of an unusually large influx from Narn to Babylon 5, which is controlled from Vir's office on Minbar. When asked by Ivanova, he explains that the Narn are being transferred from their home planet to labor camps, which is better than leaving them in their current situation, and that this is being done without the knowledge of his government. When Vir and Lyndisty are out on the station, they are attacked by a Narn, who is killed by a security team. Ivanova finds a clue to the attacker's motivation: All Narn on Vir's transit list were apparently sent to certain death. The killed Narn was related to some of them. But Vir declares that the Narn are actually not dead; In truth, it is primarily women and children who are to be brought to safety from the Centauri on other worlds. Since they are believed to be dead, no one will look for them. Londo is furious and orders Vir not to make the matter public so as not to embarrass them both. Meanwhile, Lyndisty is attacked by another Narn, but he is overwhelmed. She proudly reveals to Vir that she was involved in crimes against the Narn, which makes it clear that the attack was aimed at her. She wants Vir to kill the captured Narn, but the latter refuses and turns away in horror. The planned wedding does not take place and Londo withdraws Vir from his office as ambassador to Minbar and orders him back to Babylon 5.
57 13 Pain of memory A Late Delivery from Avalon Apr 22, 1996 Dec 15, 1996 Mike Vejar J. Michael Straczynski 312
A man in ancient clothing, armed with a sword, comes to the station and claims he is King Arthur. Cole and Franklin take him to the medlab. However, he does not last long there and sets out to ensure law and order on the ward. He helps a poor old woman who has something stolen and receives support from G'Kar, whom he then knights. Franklin now finds out the true identity of "Arthur": It is a member of the Earth Forces, David McIntyre, who was present when the humans first met the Minbari. There was a momentous misunderstanding when people opened fire and started the great war that nearly wiped out humanity (cf. Babylon 5: The First Step ). Traumatized by the events, he fled into an illusory world. Based on the legend of King Arthur, Franklin suspects that McIntyre can be healed if the "mistress of the lake" can take his sword from him - as a symbol of his painful memory. Delenn takes on this role and McIntyre's memories of the real self come back. G'Kar wants to give him a new job in the Narn resistance.

Sheridan negotiates a treaty with other races that makes Babylon 5 a neutral place for negotiations regardless of earth. From now on the station is under the protection of ships of the different peoples.

58 14th The enemy of my enemy Ship of Tears Apr 29, 1996 Dec 22, 1996 Mike Vejar J. Michael Straczynski 314
Bester comes back to the station and informs Sheridan about an earth ship that is supposed to deliver weapons to the shadows. Bester agrees to help Sheridan track down this ship, since he doesn't like the shadow's influence on the Psi Corps. With the White Star they go on a search and are confronted in hyperspace with a shadow ship that turns off again without attacking. Finally, the transport ship and its cargo are also recovered: These are telepaths who have reneged from the Psi-Corps and who are in cold sleep and have extraterrestrial implants. Franklin manages to wake up a telepath - it's Carolyn Sanderson, Bester's lover. When Sanderson wakes up, she goes nuts and connects to the medlab's technology, but manages to numb her. It becomes clear that the telepaths should serve as control units for shadow ships (cf. S3E08). Bester hopes for a possible cure from Sanderson and also wants to take action against the Earth government.

Garibaldi now finds references to a weapon against the shadows in ancient Narn texts. When the Shadows established a base on the Narn homeworld a thousand years ago, they killed all the Narn telepaths as they posed a threat to them. For this reason, the White Star was not attacked because Bester was on board.

The Shadows begin attacking worlds in the Brakiri sector, beginning open war.

59 15th Time to say goodbye Interludes and Examinations May 6, 1996 Dec 29, 1996 Jesus Trevino J. Michael Straczynski 315
Morden is extremely angry that Londo has managed to end Lord Refa's collaboration with the shadows (see S3E11). He calls for the Centauri to continue their aggressive expansionist policies and for Refa to resume relations; otherwise he threatens Londo with consequences. However, he is not intimidated and turns away. Adira Tyree, Londo's lover (see S1E03), wants to pay him a visit after a long time. However, upon arrival, she is poisoned and dies. Londo is devastated. He suspects Refa is behind it and swears vengeance; however, he does not realize that it was actually Murden that initiated the attack.

Sheridan fails to unite the different races in the fight against the shadows. They fear the superiority of the shadows and prefer to remain passive so that they may be ignored. Sheridan then turns to Kosh. He demands that the Vorlons, who are also extremely powerful, set an example and strike a blow against the Shadows. The other peoples should be shown the vulnerability of the enemy. Kosh refuses because the time is not yet ripe. This makes Sheridan angry and after a heated argument, Kosh finally gives in. He will fulfill Sheridan's request, but will then no longer be there for him when he once flies to Z'ha'dum as announced (cf. S2E16). Eventually, the Vorlons launch a successful attack on the Shadows. After Morden learns of this, he and his two shadow companions enter Kosh's quarters, whereupon a fight begins. In a dream of Sheridan's father, Kosh makes contact with him. He apologizes for his stubbornness, he was just afraid of the consequences. Sheridan should now fight the fight his own way. Kosh does not survive the attack.

Franklin openly admits his massive dependence on stimulants for the first time and resigns from his post as the station's chief physician.

60 16 Ranger one Was Without End, Part One May 13, 1996 Jan. 5, 1997 Mike Vejar J. Michael Straczynski 316
On Minbar, Jeffrey Sinclair receives a letter that was written over 900 years ago and is about to be opened. The author is Sinclair himself, who then goes to Babylon 5. There, however, a mysterious distress signal arrives from sector 14, in which Babylon 4 once disappeared (see S1E20). On the distress call, Ivanova can be seen reporting shadow ships that attack and ultimately destroy Babylon 5. Delenn also receives an ancient letter from Sinclair. She urges Sheridan, Ivanova and Cole to leave immediately with the White Star. Sinclair is also on board. On the flight she explains the background: In the last war against the shadows a thousand years ago, Babylon 4 served as a replacement for a destroyed command base, which meant that the war could be won. The crew of the White Star must now ensure that the events occur exactly and send Babylon 4 back in time. If this does not succeed, the shadows in the present are too strong and the scenario from the emergency call becomes a reality. On the way they are joined by Zathras, an alien who works for Draal on Epsilon III (see S1E18). He brings the necessary equipment for the time jump. First, the crew travels back to the point in time when Babylon 4 disappeared. Once there, some Shadow hunters are trying to destroy Babylon 4 with a bomb. Sheridan can prevent this, but his time stabilizer is damaged and he spins uncontrollably through time. He comes to in the Emperor's palace on Centauri Prime - it is Mollari who accuses Sheridan of forgetting their henchmen in his war against the shadows. He shows him that Centauri Prime has been ravaged by the servants of the shadows. The rest of the White Star's crew is now entering Babylon 4.
61 17th A thousand years through time Was Without End, Part Two May 20, 1996 Jan. 12, 1997 Mike Vejar J. Michael Straczynski 317
Sheridan is still in the future palace on Centauri Prime and was imprisoned by Londo. An elderly Delenn appears in his cell. She tells him that the war against the Shadows was won, but the price was high; with which she alludes to the devastation of the Centauri homeworld. Their execution has already been scheduled, at least their son David is safe. Sheridan struggles to process what he has experienced; finally both are called to Londo. He is very drunk and explains that he can only talk to the two of them undisturbed. A parasite sits on his neck that controls Londo, but sleeps from the alcohol. He gives both of them freedom and asks them to save his home planet. When Sheridan and Delenn are gone, Londo asks G'Kar and calls him his "old friend". He tells G'Kar to strangle him, whereupon the parasite wakes up and both of them kill each other. Vir joins and soon becomes the new emperor. In the meantime, Zathras manages to bring Sheridan back to Babylon 4 at the right time. Shortly before, the future Delenn begs Sheridan not to fly to Z'ha'dum.

In the meantime, the crew of the White Star is installing the time-shifting equipment unnoticed by the crew of Babylon 4. While the station is being evacuated due to the time warping, a ship arrives with Sinclair and Garibaldi to investigate the sudden appearance of Babylon 4. From here on the events overlap with what Sinclair had already experienced earlier (see S1E20). Just before the station finally disappears, Sinclair stays on Babylon 4. He rescues Zathras from the rubble and travels with him to the time of the first shadow war. He uses the same machine as Delenn once did (see S1E22) to transform himself into a Minbari. Arriving in the past, he imagines the stunned Minbari as Valen, the most important historical leader of the Minbari.

Delenn explains that Sinclair's actions are the cause that Minbari souls are reborn in humans (cf. S2E01) and that she wanted to restore the balance with her transformation.

62 18th The battle of the telepaths Walkabout Sep 30 1996 Jan. 26, 1997 Kevin G. Cremin J. Michael Straczynski 318
After the death of Kosh, Ulkesh becomes the new ambassador of the Vorlons to Babylon 5. He is much more aggressive than his predecessor and grievously reproaches Lyta Alexander for not being there when Kosh died.

Sheridan wants to find out whether telepaths are really a suitable weapon in the fight against the shadows (see S3E14). Together with Alexander and accompanied by a Minbari cruiser on which there are also telepaths, he and the White Star are looking for a confrontation with a shadow ship. With success - Alexander blocks the ship, after which it is destroyed. When four more shadow ships appear, Sheridan comes to the aid of a fleet of different peoples who were previously critical of the mission. Together the shadows can be defeated. Alexander receives telepathic clues that part of Kosh may have survived in someone else's body.

Franklin has gone into hiding and tries to process his addiction to stimulants. He wants to search until he has found himself. In a nightclub he meets the young singer Cailyn James. After spending the night together, the two learns that James is terminally ill and only has a few months to live.

63 19th The riddle of gray 17 Gray 17 Is Missing Oct 7, 1996 Feb. 2, 1997 John C. Flinn III J. Michael Straczynski 319
After Jeffrey Sinclair travels back in time, Delenn is slated to take charge of the Rangers. However, the Minbari warrior Neroon is of the opinion that this rank is only granted to a member of the warrior caste and threatens Delenn with death. Lennier doesn't want to confront Neroon himself out of concern about a possible civil war and turns to Cole. This stands in Neroon's way, but is hopelessly inferior in the subsequent fight. Neroon doesn't kill Cole. The fact that a human is willing to sacrifice himself for Delenn changes his mind and he accepts her leadership.

Garibaldi investigates the disappearance of a maintenance worker in the gray sector of Babylon 5. In the process, he discovers an undeveloped level between gray 16 and gray 17 that was apparently forgotten after the station went into operation. There he is held captive by a sect that does not want to reveal its hiding place and worships the Zarg, a dangerous predator that is up to mischief on the plain and is responsible for the disappearance of the worker. Garibaldi can finally outwit the sect members and kill the Zarg.

64 20th Death of a schemer And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place Oct 14, 1996 Feb 9, 1997 David J. Eagle J. Michael Straczynski 320
While Lord Refa is back on Babylon 5, Londo decides to get rid of his rival for good (see S3E11). He instructs Vir to inform G'Kar that his former assistant, Na'Toth, is being held captive on Narn. Londo tells Vir this is a trap for G'Kar; as soon as he reached Narn, Londo's men would be waiting for him. G'Kar then turns to Garibaldi with the request to smuggle him into Narn. Shortly after, Vir is attacked by Refa's henchmen. With the help of a telepath, Refa learns of Londo's plan and sets off for Narn with some guards. He wants to capture G'Kar himself to hand him over to the Emperor of the Centauri. On the home planet of the Narn, G'Kar is apparently looking for Na'Toth with a group of Narns. They meet Refa and his guards. Unexpectedly for everyone, G'Kar plays a message from Londo. In it, Londo emphasizes Refa's war crimes against the Narn and reveals that the guards accompanying Refa are loyal followers of the House of Mollari. The trap is in truth Refa. G'Kar slips him a data crystal intended to discredit Refa as a traitor to the Centauri Republic. Subsequently, Refa is killed by the Narn.

Sheridan and Delenn find out that the seemingly random attacks by the Shadows are aimed at driving all enemies to retreat to a central area, where they can then strike with devastation. Delenn shows Sheridan a large, so far secret, fleet of ships of the White Star class, which is only a prototype for a long series. The two are now lovers.

65 21st The big blow Shadow dancing Oct 21, 1996 Feb 16, 1997 Kim Friedman J. Michael Straczynski 321
Before the shadows strike for their final blow, Sheridan wants to launch a pre-emptive attack. With the help of Delenn's powers of persuasion, the friendly alien races provide additional combat ships for this endeavor. Ivanova and Cole use the White Star to scout the sector where the Army of the Shadows is expected. They encounter a shadow ship, get involved in a fight, and inform Delenn and Sheridan's fleet. This arrives just in time before the White Star is destroyed and a massive battle begins. The Shadows can be defeated, but the losses are enormous.

Franklin is still on the lower levels of Babylon 5 in search of himself (see S3E18). He gets into a knife fight and is seriously injured. Already close to death, suddenly his own self appears to him, speaking to him. Franklin realizes that he has to start all over and not repeat his mistakes. With the last of his strength he drags himself on until he is finally found. When he is feeling better again, he would like to take up his post as chief physician of the ward. Sheridan agrees.

Delenn is spending a night in Sheridan's quarters when suddenly unexpected visitors arrive: Anna Sheridan, John Sheridan's wife who was believed dead.

66 22nd Going it alone Z'ha'dum Oct 28, 1996 Feb 23, 1997 Adam Nimoy J. Michael Straczynski 322
Sheridan is completely taken by surprise when his wife Anna appears, as it took him a long time to overcome her supposed death (cf. S2E16). Anna asks Sheridan to come to Z'ha'dum with him so that the shadows can present their point of view. According to her description, the crew of the Icarus suffered an accident on their expedition on Z'ha'dum, in which most died and communication with Earth was impossible. The shadows would have been extremely hospitable. She claims to be really herself and faces a medical examination at Franklin's. He discovers two small scars on her neck and realizes that Anna was once used as a control unit for a shadow ship (cf. S3E14). Sheridan plays Anna not knowing anything about it and agrees to accompany her to Z'ha'dum. In a farewell message to Delenn, he explains that he knows it is a trap. He derived his decision to fly from his experiences in the future (cf. S3E17). There Delenn warned him not to fly to Z'ha'dum and Centauri Prime was in ruins. He suspects this happened because he listened to her warning and is now trying to change this future by doing the opposite. Shortly before his departure, Kosh appears in a mirror and warns him again that he will die on Za'ha'dum. Finally, Sheridan and Anna arrive at Z'ha'dum and are greeted by two people: An older man named Justin and Morden. The two explain the goals of the Vorlons and the Shadows to Sheridan. Accordingly, the Vorlons want to ensure order in the galaxy and that the younger races abide by their rules. The Shadows, on the other hand, believe that war among the races is necessary to identify the strongest and thus advance evolution. But the shadows see a threat in Sheridan and want to force him to cooperate with several shadow ships besieging Babylon 5 at the same time. Sheridan refuses. He escapes through the City of Shadows to a deep abyss and hears Kosh's voice telling him to jump. He programs the orbiting White Star to fall on the city and detonate two fusion bombs. Just before this happens, Sheridan jumps. After the explosion, the shadow ships of Babylon 5 retreat. Garibaldi, who had recently taken off with a fighter to defend the station, has disappeared without a trace.
