life and career

Furlan was one of the most famous theater and film actresses in Yugoslavia. She played at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb ( Hrvatsko narodno kazalište ) and in 1985 in Emir Kusturica's film Papa is on a Business Trip , which won the Golden Palm in Cannes.

She campaigned for a peaceful coexistence in a unified Yugoslavia, among other things by performing at a Belgrade theater festival. In this letter she expressed her deep disappointment with the behavior of her fellow citizens, with the threats of the nationalists and above all with the silence of friends, colleagues and acquaintances. In mid-November 1991 she emigrated to the United States with her husband, director Goran Gajić . They had a son together.

Between 1994 and 1998 she played the role of Ambassador Delenn in the science fiction series Babylon 5 . For this role she received the 1996 Sci-Fi Universe Award for Best Supporting Actress. Between 2004 and 2010, Furlan played the role of Danielle Rousseau in the US television series Lost .
