Beauty of sin ( Lepota poroka ) is a Yugoslav Drama from the year 1986 .

action

The young Jaglika marries a traditional man. The custom in the Yugoslav hinterland of Montenegro is that when the husband mounts his wife, he puts a cloth over her face. And if the wife is unfaithful, he takes her up on a mountain and hits her skull with a heavy hammer so that she never sins again.

Jaglika and her husband Luka are now moving to the sea. When Jaglika, buttoned up and chaste, works as a maid in a nudist hotel, she likes the sight of a naked Englishman so much that she also likes the “beauty of sin” and soon afterwards she has group sex. Her husband doesn't like that at all. They return to their backward village and Luka now has to kill Jaglika. But he too has changed during the time on the coast.

Reviews

  • “An antique-dramatic, pointed and critical tragicomic study about human seducibility and the problematic, culture and morality changing influence of tourism on vacation countries. Not free from speculative illusions. "(Lexicon of International Films)
  • "The brittle grace of this brutal Yugoslav comedy about the clash of antiquity and modern times has something disarming about it: a black humor to poison men." (Münchner Abendzeitung)
  • “Up in the mountains of Montenegro, life is archaic. You put a handkerchief over your wife's face when you feel hungry, and if she has cheated, she puts fresh bread on her head, which you hit with a sledgehammer, and she dies from it. On the other hand, down on the coast there is tourism, and the morals are similarly dogged, just relaxed. Islam in the Oberland, nudism in the Unterland, Fundis alleweg ... "
