Gary Basaraba (born March 16, 1959 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian - American actor , who is best known for his role in the series Brooklyn South and Boomtown . He is also a regular supporting actor in film productions.

life and career

Gary Basaraba is from Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta, and has been an actor in film and television since 1985. He grew up in Vancouver , British Columbia and graduated from the Yale School of Drama in 1982 . He took his first acting role in front of the camera as Leon in the film Alamo Bay . Other small film roles soon followed, for example in Sweet Dreams , If Dreams Were True , Merciless , The Last Temptation of Christ , Green Tomatoes , Mrs. Parker and her vicious circle , The Tree House or Striptease .

For the films The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2 he lent his voice to the Smurf Hefty . He also appeared in supporting roles in The Accountant as Don and in Suburbicon as Mitch . In the 2019 film adaptation of The Irishman by director Martin Scorsese , Basaraba took on the role of Frank Fitzsimmons , the president of the transport workers' union International Brotherhood of Teamsters .

Basaraba can often be seen in police roles. He lives mostly in New York City and Los Angeles .
