The Naked Cannon is an American slapstick comedy from 1988 and the first of three parts in the film series directed by David Zucker . He wrote the script with his brother Jerry Zucker and colleague Jim Abrahams . The three are also known as ZAZ .
The film emerged from the television series The Naked Gun . As part of the Die-nackte-Kanone series, Zucker later shot Die nackte Kanone 2½ (1991) and Die nackte Kanone 33⅓ (1994). Leslie Nielsen became a well-known film star in German-speaking countries through his role as Frank Drebin in The Naked Cannon .
action
When Lieutenant Frank Drebin returns to Los Angeles from a vacation in Beirut , his colleague Nordberg is in the hospital. He was on the trail of a drug deal, the backer of which is the industrialist Vincent Ludwig. He plans an assassination attempt on the British Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the USA. During the investigation, however, Drebin is always so clumsy that his superiors soon see him as the greatest danger for the state visit. Drebin, however, is not discouraged by setbacks and even wins Ludwig's secretary Jane Spencer as lover and ally.
A baseball game comes to a showdown: Ludwig has manipulated a baseball player through hypnosis so that he tries to shoot the British Queen on his command. However, Drebin succeeds in stopping the baseball player and - more by accident - kills Vincent Ludwig. In the end, he is celebrated as a hero, but not without giving his recently recovered colleague Nordberg a hospital stay in a final act of nonsense.

- In the butcher shop scene, the scene from the movie Batman , which was running parallel in the cinema at the time, is satirized in which Jack Napier (later the Joker ) falls into an acid tank and sticks his hand out of the liquid (the signet ring that can be seen "lands" in one Hot dog that Ludwig is served at the end of the ballpark).
- In the German version of the film, a black man is asked for his personal details by a police officer. He answers: "Whity Weißmann". This dialogue is missing in the English version of the film.
- The assassin's post-hypnotic activation is a parody of the film Telefon .
