Sophie Passmann (born on January 5, 1994 in Kempen as Sophie Isolde Mathilde Passmann ) is a German author and radio presenter .

Life

Passmann was born in 1994 in Kempen and grew up in Ettenheim . At the age of 15 she appeared in a poetry slam for the first time , and in 2011 she won the Baden-Württemberg poetry slam championships in the U20 category. After graduating from high school , she did a traineeship at Hitradio Ohr in Offenburg , where she hosted a morning show , among other things . She was awarded the LfK media prize for an interview with Frank-Walter Steinmeier .

After completing her training, she switched to the Dasding youth radio station and studied political science and philosophy at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In a weekly column at fudder.de , she wrote about her experiences as a student during her freshman semester . At the Freiburg Theater she hosted a late night show over two seasons together with the slam poet Tobias Gralke . The International Lake Constance Conference awarded her their culture prize in the “Poetry Slam” category for the state of Baden-Württemberg, which is endowed with 10,000 euros.

In 2014 her collection of texts, Monologues of Budding Psychopaths , was published, which was awarded the Grimmelshausen Prize . In 2015 she was nominated for the German Radio Prize. From 2017 to 2018 she wrote the column Post by Passmann for the women's magazine Jolie . She worked as an author for Neo Magazin Royale at irregular intervals. Since January 2018 she has been a presenter at radio station 1 Live and since January 2019 she has been writing the monthly column All or Nothing for Zeitmagazin .

In March 2019, Passmann's second book, Old White Men: An Attempt at Arbitration , was published, for which she had conversations with well-known men. The work was largely critically discussed in the national media. Passmann's book is “boring and larmoyant” ( taz ), it makes it “small and meaningless” ( FAZ ) and is “a little naive” ( NZZ ). The author has also been described as "one of the most opinionated and at the same time most entertaining voices of her generation" ( Stern ). She leads the battle between the sexes with the weapons of 'humor' and 'irony' without making her important cause into a laughing stock. ( Deutschlandfunk ).

Together with Matthias Kalle , she moderated the bi-weekly Zeit-Online - Podcast Die Schauustigen from March 2019 to March 2020 , in which they discussed topics related to television. In her book about Frank Ocean , published in 2019, Passmann describes that she suffers from depression . On May 13, 2020, she moderated the show Men's Worlds as part of the series Joko and Klaas against ProSieben and discussed sexual harassment and sexual violence against women. Since July 2020 she moderated together with Matthias Kalle weekly Audible - Podcast Cheers & riot , in which they discuss pop culture topics.

Passmann is a member of the SPD .
