Grimmelshausen Prize
The Johann Jacob Christoph von Grimmelshausen Prize is a German literary prize that has been awarded every two years since 1993. It is named after Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen , the author of Simplicissimus , who was born in Gelnhausen and died in Renchen .
Objectives
The award is given to authors "who [...] have made a remarkable contribution to the artistic examination of contemporary history in the previous six years through a [...] narrative work " (according to the statutes).
Structures
The donors are the cities of Gelnhausen and Renchen and the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Hesse . It is endowed with 10,000 euros. A division is excluded according to the statutes. Applications for the prize are not planned. A three-member jury of experts, each elected for a period of six years, decides on the award .
It is presented annually alternately in Gelnhausen and Renchen by the mayor of the respective city in a public ceremony, in 1993 for the first time in Renchen. The costs incurred for this will be borne by the city in which the prize is awarded. Since 2003, authors who are not yet established have received the Grimmelshausen Prize .
