Antonio María Valencia

Antonio María Valencia Zamorano (born November 10, 1902 in Cali ; † July 22, 1952 ) was a Colombian composer .

Valencia studied piano with Honorio Alarcón at the Conservatory of Bogotá and was a student of Vincent d'Indy , Gabriel Pierné , Paul Braud , Paul Le Flem , Louis Saint Requier and Manuel de Falla at the Schola Cantorum in Paris from 1923 . In 1933 he founded a conservatory and an art school in Cali.

In his compositions, Valencia incorporated motifs from Indian music and sometimes also used folk instruments such as maracas . His works include the Inka Ecloge for flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon, a hymn for choir, organ and orchestra, a cantata for mixed choir and tenor, a requiem and a song for solo quartet, choir and maracas. He also composed chamber music works and songs .
