Rudolf Feistmantel , from 1864 Knight von Feistmantel , (born July 22, 1805 in Ottakring , † February 7, 1871 in Vienna ) was an Austrian forest scientist .

Life

Rudolf Feistmantel studied at the University of Vienna and in 1825 switched to the kk Forstakademie Mariabrunn for two years . After successful completion, Feistmantel was entrusted with a teaching position as a private lecturer .

In 1838 Feistmantel was appointed professor of forest science at the Berg- und Forstakademie Schemnitz . In 1847 Feistmantel was transferred to the Court Chamber for Minting and Mining in Vienna and, despite the political changes, promoted to the Section Council in 1848 . From 1851 Feistmantel belonged to the Imperial and Royal Ministry of Finance with the rank of Ministerialrat and as such headed the state forest administration of the entire empire. In 1852 Feistmantel played a key role in the revision of the Austrian forest laws.

When he was awarded the Austrian Imperial Leopold Order , he was knighted by decree of November 24, 1864 and retired in 1869.

In 1897, Feistmantelstraße in Vienna- Währing (18th district) was named after him.
