history

The kk Forst-Lehranstalt zu Mariabrunn was founded in 1813 . After the Discalced Augustinian Hermits had given up the Mariabrunn monastery in 1828 , the already existing Imperial Forestry Academy was moved to the monastery building. It was under the Imperial and Royal Agriculture Ministry .

In addition, there was a mining and forestry academy in the Upper Hungarian Schemnitz (today: Banská Štiavnica , Slovakia) from 1824 to 1904, since 1867 under the supervision of the royal Hungarian government in Budapest .

From the school year 1868/69, with completely redesigned teaching, the kk Forstlehranstalt Mariabrunn was run as a university , which required a good upper secondary education and some acquaintance with the forest for entry into the course .

In 1875, on behalf of the Imperial and Royal Government, studies at the Imperial and Royal Forest Academy in Mariabrunn were transferred to the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, whose forestry section was established in the 8th district , Skodagasse 17. Wilhelm Exner , previously a professor at the Forest Academy, then its last director and later one of Austria's most famous technologists, was entrusted with the transition .

Today the Federal Research and Training Center for Forests, Natural Hazards and Landscape of the Ministry of Agriculture with a small forest museum is located in the monastery building .

To the educational institution today remember Vienna 14th district of the street names forestry school street , Maria Brunner Road , Josef Schlesinger-Strasse , Karl-von-Böhmerle Alley , Josef-Ressel-Straße and Oskar-Simony -Straße . Wilhelm-Exner-Gasse in the 9th district commemorates its last director .
