history

A pilgrimage on site is mentioned from 1610 . In 1636/1637 the place of pilgrimage went to the Order of the Augustinian Discalceaten under Emperor Ferdinand II . Both the monastery and the church were completed and consecrated in 1655 by the builder Domenico Carlone . The core of the monastery, built in the middle of the 17th century, has been structurally preserved and was expanded on the east side in the second quarter of the 18th century. After the Turkish War (1683), the church and monastery were partially restored in 1684. From 1726 to 1732 and from 1736 to 1739 the monastery was rebuilt and expanded to the east. The transverse wing was probably designed by Lucas von Hildebrandt . In 1787 the main road was removed from the vicinity of the Wien River and relocated on the north side of the monastery through the former monastery garden. In 1813 the kk forestry school was housed in the monastery. In 1829 the monastery was closed. From 1867 it was the seat of the Forest Academy and in 1875 it was repealed and incorporated into the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences , and since 1887 it has been run as the Federal Forest Research Institute . The monastery building was restored from 1989 to 1993.

architecture

The simple monastery complex of the early baroque is a large two-storey rectangular complex and is divided into two unequal rectangular courtyards by a central transverse tract. On the south-west corner, the Mariabrunn parish and pilgrimage church is structurally connected to the monastery.
