Franz Grossbauer

Franz Großbauer (born December 19, 1813 in Trumau , † May 25, 1887 in Mariabrunn ; since 1875 Franz Großbauer Edler von Waldstätt ) was an Austrian forestry teacher .

Life

Franz Großbauer attended the lower grammar school in Heiligenkreuz Abbey and a lyceum in Vienna . He then studied at the Mariabrunn Forestry School . The kk Oberforstjägermeister- and Niederösterreichische Waldamt accepted him in 1836 as a forest intern.

Großbauer became an assistant at the kk forestry school in Mariabrunn in 1837. There he was appointed full professor for forest nature in 1839. From 1852 to 1875 he was the first professor at the institute. During this time he also worked as an inspector of the school forest in the forest districts of Hütteldorf and Purkersdorf . He was a corresponding member of the kk Landwirtschaftsgesellschaft in Vienna. Franz Großbauer had a forestry museum set up in Mariabrunn , which opened in 1870. In the same year he was honored with the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order . On the occasion of his retirement, he was raised to the nobility in 1875. During his retirement he continued to work as the administrator of the Mariabrunn grounds and as curator of the teaching and museum collections.

Großbauer was married and had several children. He was a grandfather of the physics Nobel Prize winner Victor Hess .

Großbauerstrasse in Vienna- Großjedlersdorf was named after him in 1937 .
