Johann Baptist Anton Schmitt
Johann Baptist Anton Schmitt (also Johann Anton Schmitt or Johann Schmitt ; * July 24, 1775 in Igersheim , † December 9, 1840 in Vienna ) was a German forester .
Life
Schmitt graduated from school in Mergentheim and was trained in forestry and hunting under the direction of his father. He came in 1793 on the recommendation of the forester Friedrich Karl Hartig (1768-1835) in Mergentheim in the service of the German Order . Equipped with a scholarship from the order's high master Maximilian Franz of Austria , he came to Hungen for further training under Georg Ludwig Hartig . There he received very good certificates in 1797 and returned to his homeland. In the following years he dealt with forest taxation and went to Vienna in 1807 after he could not find a suitable job in his home country.
Schmitt passed a forestry examination in Vienna in 1807, but due to the political turmoil he did not receive a position at a forest academy that was to be created. As a result, he ran into financial difficulties. In 1808, however, he was hired as a forest professor at the Purkersdorf school by the vice-chief hunter Ferdinand Graf zu Hardegg . From 1810 he was supported in the field of mathematics by Georg Johann Winkler (1776-1883). As the 1812/1813 Forest Academy Mariabrunn was established Schmitt got there job as a full professor of forest science. Later he was also appointed to the kk council . He remained in this office until his retirement in 1837. He was followed by Leopold Grabner .
