Rhys Ifans (born July 22, 1967 in Haverfordwest , Wales ) is a British actor .

Life

Ifans grew up in Ruthin (Wales). His mother tongue is Welsh . At the age of 18 he moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama .

Ifans played in the television series Sparrow from 1990 to 1992, and in the television series Nightshift from 1993 to 1994 . He played one of the leading roles in Streetlife (1995) and starred alongside Anthony Hopkins in August (1996) ; in the comedy Das Chaoten-Kaff (1997) he again took on one of the leading roles.

He became internationally known for the role of Spike , the chaotic roommate of William Thacker ( Hugh Grant ) in the comedy Notting Hill (1999). In the thriller You Are Dead (1999) he played one of the leading roles alongside John Hurt , similar to the thriller Extreme Risk (2000), in which he appeared alongside Joseph Fiennes and Tara Fitzgerald . He played a freaky English kicker in the American football comedy Heroes from the Second Row . His voice was heard alongside the voices of Simon Callow , Kate Winslet and Nicolas Cage in the cartoon A Christmas Tale (2001). Ifans was nominated for the British Empire Award for his role in Liebeswahn - Enduring Love (2004) . He won the BAFTA TV Award for his role in the television movie Not Only But Always . After he appeared in a minor supporting role as Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in 2010 , he played the main role of the "true" author of Shakespearian works, Edward de Vere , in the 2011 Shakespeare thriller Anonymus by Roland Emmerich .

In the early 1990s, Ifans was briefly the singer of the Welsh music group Super Furry Animals , on whose debut album Fuzzy Logic he appeared as a guest. In 2005 he played the lead role in the music video The Importance Of Being Idle by the British rock band Oasis . Ifans has performed at the Royal National Theater in London and the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester . He lives in the London borough of Pimlico .
