Fabrice Michel Claude Anthamatten (born July 22, 1974 in Paris ) is a French-Swiss criminal.

Judged cases

In August 1999, Anthamatten threatened a French tourist with a knife in Ferney-Voltaire, France, near Geneva , handcuffed her and raped her. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, while the prosecutor appeals lodged. In August 2001, before the appeal process could begin, he raped a second woman in Ferney-Voltaire. Again, he threatened the victim with a knife and handcuffed them. He then stole 2,500 francs from the woman . "At first I didn't intend to rape her, just steal from her," said Anthamatten at the trial. But then he drove with the woman to the same place where he had raped his first victim a few years earlier and “the story came up”.

With the stolen money, Anthamatten traveled to Dublin , where he had friends. He then returned to France to join the Foreign Legion . In October 2001, he was sentenced to five years in prison for his first rape. In 2003 he received 15 years for his second. "Unlike my first rape, I didn't have a condom with me," he told the court. “It's like that, since my first crime I have had a big rape fantasy. It's a good trip every time. "

He served the first part of his 20-year sentence in a prison in France. In 2008, an application to transfer to Switzerland was approved because Anthamatten is a Swiss-French citizen.

Act of Versoix

Following an opinion of his attending psychiatrist accompanied him were free transitions allowed. It was first released on September 3, 2013. On his second free offering on September 12, 2013 he was accompanied by his social therapist Adeline M. at a hippotherapy participate. Before that he was allowed to buy a knife, supposedly for hoof care. A police search was triggered after the two failed to return to Champ-Dollon prison in the canton of Geneva. On September 13th, the body of the social therapist was found in Versoix near Geneva.

After the body was found, all releases in Geneva prisons were suspended until further notice. International searches for Anthamatten were carried out via Interpol . According to the French forensic psychiatrist and professor at the University of Lyon , Liliane Daligand, who examined Anthamatten on the occasion of the second trial, the risk of repetition is very high. He'll kill again if he's not found as soon as possible.

After a four-day manhunt, he was caught at the German-Polish border on September 15, 2013, after German federal officials accidentally noticed Anthamatten's car that was being wanted. According to his fellow prisoners, Anthamatten was on his way to Poland to kill his ex-girlfriend.

According to media reports, he should have confessed to the murder of Adeline M. to the police. A 40-day pre- trial detention for Anthamatten and his extradition from Poland to Switzerland were requested. In December 2013 he was extradited to Switzerland.

Reactions

The case sparked outrage in Switzerland. Above all, criticism was leveled at the fact that a rapist classified as brutal was given clearance and, on top of that, was only allowed to take part in riding therapy accompanied by a social therapist.

Anthamatten's therapist Adeline M. (34) had already accompanied more than 200 prisoners' releases. She was the mother of an eight-month-old daughter and had recently quit her job out of concern for her child.

“Our justice system cares too much about the perpetrators. They receive a lot of attention and care, ”said the security director of the canton of Vaud, bordering Geneva, Jacqueline de Quattro . It would not be acceptable for a convicted violent criminal to go on excursions from prison years before his release.

By criminologists and psychologists was criticized that no independent psychiatric report was requested in order emanating from Anthamatten risk estimate. Although only the assessment by his treating psychiatrist was available, Anthamatten was given leave of absence. According to the head of the psychiatric department at Geneva University Hospital , a psychiatric expertise in the strict sense of the word needs an external view in order to be more objective.

Versoix murder trial

In November 2015, psychiatric court experts spoke out against lifelong detention of the perpetrator, but recommended detention for the period after the sentence had been served, which can be checked regularly.
